High School Program Options
Forest allows for a blended program in which students can choose from one or more of the following options to create the optimum program for their high school experience:
Independent StudyIn this option, students work on subjects independently. Students must regularly check-in with their Supervising Teacher to monitor student progress and to design projects/assignments collaboratively that both capture the interests of the student and meet the state standards.
Block ClassesForest Charter School offers a selection of classes at learning centers in Nevada City, Truckee, and Foresthill. The classes are based on the interest of the students. Nevada City classes typically include subjects ranging from college preparatory classes such as Biology and Chemistry to electives such as Drama and Studio Art. Students can sign up for courses so they are in class all day, or they can simply sign up for one or two classes so that they get more direct instruction from a teacher.
Sierra College Academic EnrichmentStudents who meet specific requirements can take classes at Sierra College and receive credits for both high school and college as well as enhance their learning and class options.Online ClassesForest works with a variety of online providers. These classes allow students an additional approach to designing an academic program. Some classes allow students to create their own schedule while others have required times that a student must be online to access a certain lesson. All classes are structured to fulfill the required state standards. Ask your Supervising Teacher for more information about online classes.
Advanced Placement CourseStudents may take courses through College Board’s Advanced Placement program in AP Biology, AP US History, AP Calculus AB, and/or AP English Literature and Composition. In addition, students may study on their own in preparation for taking additional AP tests in other subjects. All tests are offered in May.
